I-89 Traffic Impacts

BELOW IS A MESSAGE FROM THE STATE OF VERMONT

DATE: May 3, 2019

PROJECT TYPE: Bridge Rehabilitation

LOCATION:
I-89 between Exit 16 and Exit 17 in the Town of Colchester, Chittenden County

TRAFFIC IMPACT:
Travel impacts include reducing I-89 to one lane in the non-peak direction between the hours of 7 AM and 3 PM. I-89 northbound can be reduced to one lane during the weekday AM peak hours (7 AM to 2 PM) and I-89 southbound can be reduced to one lane during the weekday PM peak hours (10 AM to 3 PM).

DURATION:
The work scheduled to occur Monday through Friday, will require lane closures on I-89 between the hours of 7 AM and 3 PM.

PROJECTED COMPLETION:
November 2019

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES/NOTICES:
Crews will begin placing median barriers along I-89 and installing construction fencing throughout the work zone. A crew will be inspecting the bridges' substructures for minor damage and begin repairs to abutments and piers. Construction activities will require I-89 between Exit 16 and Exit 17 to be reduced to one lane in the non-peak direction throughout the week, expect delays.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS:
Weekend: From 7 PM Friday, September 6 to 6 AM Monday, September 9, I-89 will be reduced to one lane in each direction facilitated by crossover traffic patterns. Expect delays. Minor intermittent disruptions to traffic are anticipated along Bay Road throughout the weekend. Flaggers will be present.




Weekdays: Monday, September 9 through Friday, September 13, I-89 will be reduced to one lane in the non-peak direction between the hours of 7 AM and 7 PM facilitated by crossover traffic patterns. Intermittent disruptions to traffic are anticipated along Bay Road throughout the week. Flaggers will be present.




I-89 northbound can be reduced to one lane during the weekday AM peak hours (6 AM to 10 AM) and the off-peak hours (10 AM to 2 PM & 7 PM to 6 AM). I-89 southbound can be reduced to one lane during the off-peak hours (10 AM to 2 PM & 7 PM to 6 AM) and the weekday PM peak hours (2 PM to 7 PM).

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES/NOTICES:
The southbound barrel of I-89 will be closed and I-89 will be reduced to one lane is each direction facilitated by crossover traffic patterns starting at 7 PM Friday, September 6 while crews work to rehabilitate Bridge 76 South, over Bay Road. The southbound barrel of I-89 is scheduled to reopen Monday, September 9 at 6 AM. Bay Road will be reduced to one lane alternating with one-way traffic intermittently throughout the weekend.

Starting Monday, September 9, continuing throughout the week, crews will be demolishing the deck of Bridge 76 South, over Bay Road and preparing for the upcoming weekend bridge closure. I-89 will be reduced to one-lane in the non-peak direction facilitated by crossover traffic patterns throughout the week. Bay Road will be reduced to one lane with alternating one-way traffic intermittently throughout the week.

The next weekend bridge closure is anticipated to be Friday, September 13 at 7 PM through Monday, September 16 at 6 AM. This work will require I-89 to be reduced to one lane in each direction facilitated by crossover traffic patterns. Bay Road will be closed throughout the closure period. A detour route will be signed. This anticipated weekend closure is weather dependent.

PLEASE BE ADVISED: VTrans reminds motorists to stay vigilant adhering to the work zone signage and specifically the posted speed limits while this project is underway. Expect delays.

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) announces that the Interstate 89 Bridge 76 North, over Bay Road, located between Exits 16 and 17, has been reopened.

For the remainder of the week, Monday - Friday, I-89 will be reduced to one lane in the non-peak direction between the hours of 7 AM and 7 PM facilitated by crossover traffic patterns. Expect delays. Bay Road will be reduced to one lane with alternating two-way traffic throughout the week between the hours of 7 AM and 7 PM. Flaggers will be present.

Weekend closure of I-89 Bridge 76 North, over Bay Road, in Colchester, VT

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) announces plans to implement crossover traffic patterns on Interstate 89 between Exits 16 and 17 beginning at 7 PM Friday, August 9th as part of the I-89 Colchester Bridges Rehabilitation Project.

Interstate 89 Bridge 76 North, over Bay Road, located between Exits 16 and 17, will be closed between 7 PM Friday, August 9th and 6 AM Monday, August 12th, 2019. Traffic will be maintained as follows:

One lane in each direction during the weekend bridge closure (Friday at 7 PM through Monday at 6 AM)

Weekend closure of I-89 Bridge 76, over Bay Road and Bridge 77, over Mallet's Creek, in Colchester, VT

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) announces plans to implement crossover traffic patterns on Interstate 89 between Exits 16 and 17 beginning at 7 PM Friday, July 26th as part of the I-89 Colchester Bridges Rehabilitation Project.

Interstate 89 Bridge 76 North, over Bay Road and Bridge 77 North, over Mallett’s Creek, located between Exits 16 and 17, will be closed between 7 PM Friday, July 26th and 6 AM Monday, July 29th, 2019. Traffic will be maintained as follows:

• One lane in each direction during the weekend bridge closure (Friday at 7 PM through Monday at 6 AM)




The weekend bridge closure is weather dependent.

It is important for all motorists to remain vigilant adhering to the work zone signage and specifically the posted speed limits while this project is underway. Expect delays.

Bay Road will be reduced to one lane with alternating two-way traffic; flaggers will be present to assist vehicles through the work zone. Expect delays.

I-89 northbound can be reduced to one lane during the weekday AM peak hours (6 AM to 10 AM) and the off-peak hours (10 AM to 2 PM). I-89 southbound can be reduced to one lane during the off-peak hours (10 AM to 2 PM) and the weekday PM peak hours (2 PM to 7 PM).

Weekend: From 7 PM Friday, July 19 to 6 AM Monday, July 22, I-89 will be reduced to one lane in each direction facilitated by crossover traffic patterns. The work is weather dependent.




SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES/NOTICES: Next week, crews will begin striping the temporary pavement markings along I-89 between Exits 16 and 17. Once striping is completed, crews will begin installing the jersey barrier near the center lane lines of I-89 between Exits 16 and 17 to facilitate the new crossover traffic patterns.

Crews will continue working on steel repairs on the substructure of Bridge 76 over Bay Road and constructing the causeway on I-89 out to Mallet's Creek near Bridge 77. The causeway will allow the crane to be positioned for use on the rehabilitation of Bridge 77 over Mallet's Creek.

PROJECT COMPLETION: November 2019

The work will require lane closures on I-89 and a single lane closure on Bay Road throughout the week.

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES/NOTICES: Friday, June 21, crews will finalize roughing in the north side crossover on I-89, north of Bridge 77, over Mallets Creek and the north side crossover will be checked for proper alignment. Beginning next week, crews will start paving the north side crossover on I-89, north of Bridge 77, over Mallets Creek. If time permits, crews will begin paving the south side crossover south of Bridge 76, over Bay Road. Next week, crews will finalize concrete repairs and complete concrete pours on the piers and abutments of Bridge 76, over Bay Road. In addition, crews will be jacking Bridge 76, over Bay Road, to begin steel repairs.

Crews have completed setting the median barriers along I-89. Crews will continue striping top soil this week. Construction continues on the south side crossover south of bridge 76 over Bay Road. Repair work continues on the abutments and piers of bridge 76 over Bay Road.

Crews will continue setting the median barriers along I-89 to be utilized for crossover traffic patterns. Striping top soil will begin this week. Construction of the southbound crossover and the new u-turn south of bridge 76 over Bay Road will continue. Repair work continues on the abutments and piers of bridge 76 over Bay Road. In addition, installation of temporary traffic control signage throughout the work zone and along the vehicular and cyclist detour routes will begin next week if time allows.
